NIIT


 Admission Process

NU offers admission into its prestigious B.Tech programme for the batch 2013-2017 under a Regular Admission Mode (RAD) for eligible applicants who are appearing for their Class XII Board Examinations in March-April 2013 or have successfully completed Class XII in March-April 2011 or 2012.
The applicants seeking admission in this mode can also apply for scholarship under the NU Scholar Programme.
There are limited seats for which admission is being granted under the Regular Application Mode. The admission will be granted on a first come first served basis to only those applicants who meet the admission criteria.

Timelines

The RAD application will be available from February 1, 2013.
The last date of submission of application under RAD is June 15, 2013.
The PCI will be scheduled within 7 days of meeting the eligibility criteria and typically by June 22, 2013.
All offers for admissions under RAD will be made typically within 48 hours of PCI.

Process

Applicants interested in seeking admissions in NU under the Regular Admissions Mode (RAD) to the B.Tech programme have to go through the following steps:
Step 1: Buy the Admission Application form online by paying INR. 2,000 or request for the application form from NU Admissions Offices or notified centers by paying INR. 2,000 in cash or by Crossed Demand Draft in favor of NIIT University, payable at New Delhi.
Step 2:Submit the duly completed Admission Application form along with self-attested copies of class X and class XII (if available at the time of application) mark-sheets and if applicable, the ranking/score in JEE-MAIN /SAT/NUET/Any state Engineering Entrance Examination/  in any one of the following ways:
  1. Online on the NU website: www.niituniversity.in.Attach a scanned copy of the mark-sheets.
  2. By post or in person at the NU Central Admissions Officeat NIIT House, 85, Sector 32, Institutional Area, Gurgaon, 122001.
  3. To a duly authorized representative in person, details of which are available on the NU website.
  4. Email a scanned copy at btech@niituniversity.in along with a receipt confirming electronic transfer of the application fee.
Please note that the last date for receiving applications under the RAD mode is June 15,2013.
Step 3: NU will send an acknowledgement of receiving the Admission Application form and send intimation about the schedule for PCI to each eligible applicants within 48 hrs of receiving the application by NU.
Step 4: Eligible applicants undergo a PCI either face-to-face or through video conferencing.
The following will be assessed during the counseling interaction:
  1. English communication skills – written & oral
  2. Interest & hobbies
  3. Degree of self-awareness
  4. Out of the box thinking
  5. Reason for the choice of stream
Step 5: All eligible applicants’ parents/guardian will be invited for interactions with the NU team. The interactions can be either face-to-face or through video conferencing. They will be scheduled either on the same day as the PCI or within 7 days of the PCI. Parents/guardian interaction is mandatory before admission acceptance.
Step 6: Applicants to intimate the class XII results (if not intimated along with the application) to University Admissions Office with the reference of RAD Application number latest by June 15, 2013. In case the results of the Class XII examination is not announced by the Board, then the applicant should inform the University Admissions Office of the delay and seek a written extension for submission of the Class XII results.
Step 7: RAD offer will be made via SMS, email and courier to the selected applicants after the PCI with the applicant and the parent/guardian interaction within 7 days after the announcement of the Class XII results or within 48 hours of PCI whichever is later.
Step 8:
(a)  Applicants who have   applied before 15th May 2013, if offered admission, should submit the RAD acceptance Letter duly signed and pay INR.15,000 towards RAD Acceptance fee by cash, or by electronic transfer, or by Crossed Demand Draft in favor of NIIT University payable at New Delhi within 5 working days from the   receipt of Offer letter of RAD sent to the student via SMS, email and courier.
(b)  Applicants who have applied after  15th May 2013, if offered admission,  should submit the RAD acceptance Letter duly signed and pay INR.15,000 towards RAD  Acceptance fee along with the Applicable Fee  (as per the selected payment plan of semester, annual or lump sum) and interest-free, refundable security deposit. The fee can be paid by cash, or through electronic transfer, or by a Crossed Demand Draft in favor of NIIT University, payable at New Delhi within 5 working days from the   receipt of Offer letter of RAD sent to the student via SMS, email and courier.
Step 9: Candidates to submit proof (original mark-sheet along with self-attested copy) of having passed the Class XII Board examination from any Indian Board or equivalent from abroad with a minimum of 60% marks as follows:
(a). Applicant who applied before 15th May 2013should pay the balance applicable fee as per the  preferred
payment plan i.e. Semester/Annual/ Lump sum along with the refundable interest-free security deposit by May 31,2013.
(b).All applicants should Submit proof (original mark-sheet along with self-attested copy) of having passed the Class XII Board examination from any Indian Board or equivalent from abroad within 7 days from the date of admission offer or   June 15,2013  whichever is earlier.
From here the status changes from a ‘candidate’ to a ‘student’ of NU.
Step 10: Students join the University campus and complete the first registration formalities including submission of original mark-sheet of Class X and XII.
RAD Students join the programme on 23rd July, 2013

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant should:

  2. Applicant must submit the fees as follows:
(a) Applicant who have applied before 15th May 2013,if offered admission, should submit the RAD acceptance Letter duly signed and pay INR.15, 000 towards RAD Acceptance fee by cash, or by electronic transfer, or by Crossed Demand Draft in favor of NIIT University payable at New Delhi within 5 working days from the   receipt of Offer letter of RAD sent to the student via SMS, email and courier.
(b) The applicant should pay the balance applicable fee as per the preferred payment plan i.e. Semester/Annual/ Lump sum along with the refundable interest-free security deposit by May 31,2013.
(c) Applicant who have applied  after  15th May 2013  , if  offered admission, should submit the RAD acceptance Letter duly signed and pay INR.15,000 towards RAD  Acceptance fee along with the Applicable Fee as per the selected payment plan of semester, annual or lump sum and  the interest-free, refundable security deposit. The fees can be paid by cash, or through electronic transfer, or by a Crossed Demand Draft in favor of NIIT University, payable at New Delhi within 5 working days from the   receipt of Offer letter of RAD sent to the student via SMS, email and courier.
The scanned copy of acceptance letter along with the payment details should be sent to Btech@niituniversity.in  or courier to Central Admission Office / Regional Admission Office, failing which the offer of RAD will stand withdrawn automatically.
(d) Regular Admission is valid only for the programme stated in the RAD offer letter for the academic year 2013-17.
(e) Submission of proof (original mark-sheet along with attested copy) of having passed the Class XII Board examination from any Indian Board or equivalent from abroad with a minimum of 60% and wherever applicable, the Competitive Entrance Examination scores/ranking within 7 days from the date of admission offer or June 15, 2013 whichever is earlier.
In RAD mode MS A+ Scholarship is not available.

NU Scholar Search Programme-RAD

In order to encourage and support meritorious candidates, NU is implementing a very distinctive NU Scholar Programme.
Eligibility for NU Scholar Search Programme is as per Tables1&2.
The benefits under each plan are as below:

Merit Scholarship Plan A (MS-A)

Under this plan, a candidate qualifies for a 100% Scholarship on University and Hostel Fees (MS-A).

Merit Scholarship Plan B (MS-B+)

Under this plan, a candidate qualifies for a 75% Scholarship on University and Hostel Fees (MS-B+).

Merit Scholarship Plan B (MS-B)

Under this plan, a candidate qualifies for a 50% Scholarship on University and Hostel Fees (MS-B).

Merit Scholarship Plan C (MS-C)

Under this plan, a candidate qualifies for a 25% Scholarship on University and Hostel Fees (MS-C)
Scholarships awarded under the NU Scholar Search Programme are for all four years of the academic programme subject to the maintenance of Academic Performance at a CGPA of 7.5. The scholarship plan may be upgraded if the performance is better than 7.5 CGPA and maybe downgraded if the performance is lower than7.5 CGPA. Details of this are given in Table 3.

To qualify for scholarship as defined in Table 2, the candidate should get at least 60% aggregate of 5 subjects (for CBSE/State Board or its equivalent from any other country; four compulsory subjects are English, Mathematics, Science and Social study and for ICSE Board four compulsory subjects are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English and Social Science. Fifth subject, for all Boards, can be any single high scoring subject) marks each in the Class  X and XII Board Examination in addition to the score/rank specified above.
Candidate will be offered the benefit of the plan most favorable to her/him.
A candidate applying before the announcement of the class XII results will be offered a scholarship on a provisional basis. A candidate who may not qualify for scholarship at the time Early Admission may qualify based on the class XII marks or any of the entrance ranks as specified above. The final scholarship category will be decided on the basis of the marks obtained in class XII or ranks obtained in the Entrance Examination specified above and subject to availability of scholarship at the time of submission of marks/rank to the University. The marks considered is the aggregate marks in all subjects both in class X & XII.

Terms and Conditions

  1. The number of NU scholarships available under this programme are limited and are awarded on first cum first served basis.
  2. The NU scholarship/assistantship will be upgraded, downgraded or withdrawn in case the student fails to meet the stipulated CGPA in the year as shown in Table 3 above.
  3. For the year in which the NU scholarship gets downgraded or withdrawn, all the applicable fees will be payable by the student within 10 days of announcement of the University results or June 1 whichever is later.
  4. Failure to remit the applicable fees will lead to termination/suspension of the student from the rolls of the university.
  5. The NU Scholar Search Programme will continue to be applicable even if the assistantship programme is not availed or discontinued. However if the NU scholarship is withdrawn , the assistantship will automatically stand withdrawn till such time the NU scholarship is reinstated to MS-A+.
  6. Candidates, who have taken admission with no scholarship in the first year, may avail scholarship in the second year provided they maintain the required CGPA in the first year.
  7. The grant of NU scholarship/assistantship will be at the sole discretion of the University and no disputes will be entertained.
The University may alter or discontinue the NU Scholar Search Programme at its sole discretion.

5. Glossary of Admission Terms

Acceptance FormThe acceptance form is a document that confirms the receipt of the candidate’s acceptance to join the University.
Acceptance FeeFee paid to secure admission at NU, paid by all applicants who have been offered admission.
Admission Application FormIt is the form that an applicant needs to fill for seeking admission to NU. This can either be downloaded from the website or can be directly purchased from the Admissions office and other notified locations.
Admission Offer LetterThis letter offers admission to selected candidates whose application is considered after Personal Counseling Interaction (PCI) and specifies the terms and conditions of admission.
Annual Payment Plan (APP)Annual Payment Plan (APP) is the fees payment option on a yearly basis. The first year’s fees are payable in advance, at the time of enrolment. The subsequent years’ fees is payable in advance by June 1 every year.
ApplicantA person who applies for admission at NU by submitting an Admission Application form.

Central Admissions OfficeThe department responsible at NU to assist prospective applicants through the admission process.

Early Admission Mode (EAD)NU’s initiative to facilitate admission of bright applicants with brilliant academic or extra-curricular record, into a programme of their choice. The applicants are chosen for the process on the basis of their performance in Class X and evidence of achievements, and after Personal Counselling Interaction, they are offered admission in this mode. The admission offer under this mode will be made typically by mid-February.
EligibilityIt implies that the applicant has the necessary qualifications to be considered for admission to NU as per the set criteria. The eligibility criteria vary for different modes of admission.
EnrollmentThis refers to the milestone in the admission process at which time a candidate confirms and secures a seat in the offered programme by submitting their Class XII results and paying the applicable fees as per the payment plan of choice.
Lump Sum Payment Plan (LPP)Under the Lump Sum Payment Plan, the candidate pays a single fixed fee amount covering four years of the programme at the time of enrollment. This payment plan protects the student against fees inflation in the subsequent years.
Modes of admissionThis characterizes the two different ways in which admission is offered by NU for the B.TechProgramme that are Early Admission and Regular Admission.
NUET examinationThe on line examination conducted by NU for admission to B.Tech Biology technology programme.
Personal Counseling Interaction (PCI)Personal Counseling Interaction is a unique counseling process of NU for the applicants shortlisted for admission. This interaction between the applicants/guardians and designated officials from NU is an important prerequisite before admission is offered to the student.
First RegistrationThis is a milestone in the admission process wherein the student registers in a set of courses for a given semester as per the Academic Regulations. First registration is accompanied by verification of original certificates and mark-sheets.
Regional Admissions OfficesNU offices in Mumbai and Kolkata regions, set up to assist prospective students through the application and joining process.
Regular Admission Mode (RAD)The established means to secure admission for applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and other norms set by NU. This mode of admission is the opportunity for applicants who have not been able to take admission through Early Admission or Early Application modes.

Security DepositThe security deposit refers to the interest free refundable deposit of INR 35,000 to be paid at the time of enrollment which will be refunded as per the refund rules of the University.
Scholarship LetterThe letter which notifies the student on the financial benefits being offered. It provides information about the eligibility criteria, type and amount of scholarship, along with terms and conditions that govern the award.
Semester Payment Plan (SPP)Semester Payment Plan is a fees payment option on a semester basis. The first semester’s fees is payable on enrolment. The subsequent semesters’ fee is payable in advance of semester commencement by December 1 and June 1 every year.
StudentA candidate who has deposited the enrolment fee after accepting the Admission Offer.
Total FeesThe sum of the University fee and the Hostel fee is referred to as the Total Fees.
